Your stairlift has a slight delay between turning it on, and moving when you use the joystick. This is a safety feature to ensure that the stairlift doesn't move if you accidentally move the controller, whilst getting on for example.
Check that it is parked at a charging point (usually at the top and bottom of the stairs).
Depending on the make and model of stairlift some or all of these may apply:
Your stairlift will still operate if there is a power cut. The stairlift battery has enough power to complete approximately 10 journeys, depending on the model of stairlift.
The stairlift recharges when the chair is in the parked position.
Depending on usage, the stairlift battery will last 3-5 years. The remote control batteries should be replaced annually.
Your stairlift needs servicing every 6-12 months depending on the stairlift make and model. This will be detailed in your stairlift manual.
